Jewish Teacher Education

York University’s Faculty of Education offers a unique opportunity to pursue a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree in Jewish Teacher Education (JTE). There are two models that offer two distinct entry points. The Direct Entry Concurrent BEd program model is open to graduating high school students. The Consecutive BEd program model is open to degree holders and university students who are at present completing an undergraduate degree.

JTE prepares graduates to teach in Jewish Day Schools, Supplementary Schools, and public schools in one of three divisions:

  • Primary-Junior
  • Junior-Intermediate
  • Intermediate-Senior

JTE includes courses in pedagogy specific to the teaching of Hebrew and Jewish Studies as well as practicum placements in Jewish Day Schools and public schools. JTE is jointly offered by the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, in collaboration with the Israel and Golda Koschitzky Centre for Jewish Studies.
