Admission Requirements

Preparing your application to graduate studies at York University and/or other interested universities requires research and planning. Some students start preparing their plan for graduate studies as early as two years before they submit their application. Consider the following information below to help guide you through a successful application process.

MHRM - Eligibility and Application Requirements

The admissions process for the Master of Human Resources Management degree program is highly competitive.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have an undergraduate honours* (i.e., four-year) degree from a recognized university, with a minimum B+ average in the last two years of study. Preference is given to applicants with an undergraduate honours degree in human resource management, business/commerce, administrative studies, psychology, labour studies, or sociology.

Applicants must demonstrate a solid practical HRM background or relevant work experience that prepares them for advanced studies.

Applicants are assessed through online applications, resumes, and professional references.

Foreign students are required to demonstrate their English proficiency by meeting the minimal standards on either the York English Language Test (YELT), the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), and/or the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS). * Applicants who have completed a three-year undergraduate degree, numerous HRM courses, and have HR work experience at a senior level may also be considered for admission.

Minimum Requirements

The program is open to graduates of recognized universities with a master’s degree in HRM or in a related field, with a minimum B+ average. Candidates must demonstrate the capacity to undertake advanced study in the field.

All applicants must provide a statement of research interests and three letters of reference. Short-listed candidates will be invited to attend an interview. When physical distance poses a problem, interviews will be conducted via York’s teleconferencing facilities.

Please note that the GMAT test score is not required for your admission application.

Annually, February 15 is the deadline for application to the PhD HRM program to be eligible to start in September of the same year.
