Welcome to the Preceptor Partnership Program

Thank you for your interest in the Preceptor Partnership Program. Preceptors play a critical role in shaping the next generation of nurses. This program was created specifically for preceptors who support York University nursing students in their practicum learning.

This online program provides a series of learning modules that introduce concepts and topics foundational to the preceptor-student teaching and learning experience. Content is presented in the context of York University’s School of Nursing curriculum, policies, and procedures.

By completing these modules, preceptors will develop strategies to support student learning, foster professional development, and contribute to high-quality clinical education.

How the Program Works

The program consists of a set of self-paced modules that preceptors can freely navigate between based on self-identified learning goals. Each module will require approximately 30-40 minutes to complete.

Preceptors will:

  1. For each module:
    1. Watch/listen to the lesson (closed captions can be enabled using the CC button in the YouTube video player)
    2. Respond to the short knowledge check(s)
    3. Analyze short video vignettes using lesson content
  2. Complete all required modules to complete the program

Relevant York University resources are hyperlinked within the modules and on this page for easy access during and after completion of the program.

Modules contained in this program include:

  1. Overview of Preceptor Partnership Program
  2. Teaching and Learning Theories
  3. Guiding and Supporting Students
  4. Feedback and Evaluation
  5. Managing Conflict
