Housing Services is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive living environment for students with disabilities.
We offer a range of accessible housing options across our residences, including adapted rooms and apartment-style units. Depending on your needs, spaces may include features such as assistive devices and visual alarm systems. Service animals and support persons are welcome in accordance with university policies.
Requesting an Accommodation
To receive residence accommodations, follow these steps:
For room and physical accommodations, students are encouraged to register with Student Accessibility Services (SAS). SAS will complete a needs assessment and work in partnership with Housing Services to determine appropriate residence supports.
For food-related accommodations, students follow a similar process but will meet with a Registered Dietitian. This may include accommodations related to medical conditions (such as allergies or intolerances) as well as religious dietary needs (for example, kosher). The Dietitian will assess needs and provide recommendations to support the student’s dining experience in residence.
How the Process Works
- Apply to residence and indicate any accessibility or accommodation needs
- Connect with the appropriate support office:
- Student Accessibility Services (SAS) for room and physical accommodations
- Registered Dietitian for food-related accommodations
- Complete an assessment to determine your needs
- Collaborative review with Housing Services
- Residence placement or support plan based on assessed needs and availability. Some accommodations require a specific room assignment, while others may be supported through priority room selection (undergraduate residences only).
Additional Information
Students can check the status of their accommodation request at any time through the Housing Portal under Application → Housing Accommodations.
While we make every effort to meet individual accommodation needs, all placements and supports are subject to availability.
For more information about registering and accessing supports, please visit the Student Accessibility Services website.
Accommodations & Potential Residence Locations
The following sections outline common accommodation types, along with examples of how needs may be supported in residence, including possible features and locations.
Please note that the examples below are not exhaustive and may not reflect every student’s experience. Housing Services works collaboratively with students to understand their individual needs and determine appropriate accommodations and residence placements, based on assessment and availability.
Room selection is available to undergraduate students only. Depending on the type of accommodation, some students may be assigned to a specific room, while others may participate in room selection or receive priority access.
