We offer a range of accessible housing options across our residences, including adapted rooms and apartment-style units. Requesting an Accommodation
To receive residence accommodations, follow these steps:
For room and physical accommodations, students should indicate on their housing application that they have disability related adaptive housing needs. Students may also consider registering with Student Accessibility Services (SAS) if they will require academic accommodation. Students will be required to provide documentation to SAS regarding their housing accommodations.
For dietary accommodations, students follow a similar process and are required to consult with York’s Registered Dietitian. This may include support for medical conditions (such as food allergies, intolerances, diabetes or celiac disease) as well as religious dietary needs (for example, kosher). The Registered Dietitian will complete an individual assessment and determine appropriate supports and/or accommodations to promote a safe and inclusive dining experience in residence.
How the Process Works
For Room and Physical Accommodations
- Apply to residence and indicate any accessibility or accommodation needs
- Provide Documentation:
- When requested, provide necessary documentation (this could be the SAS Medical Form)
- If you have already provided documentation to SAS you will skip this step unless more documentation is needed.
- Connect with a member of the SAS Team. SAS will reach out to you to get a better understanding of your housing needs.
- SAS will reach out if you need to complete this step.
- Residence placement or support plan based on assessed needs and availability. Some accommodations require a specific room assignment, while others may be supported through priority room selection (undergraduate residences only).
For Food Related Accommodations (undergraduate residence only)
- Apply to residence and indicate any food allergies, dietary restrictions, etc.
- Connect with the Registered Dietitian
- Complete an assessment to determine your needs
- Residence placement or support plan based on assessed needs and availability. Some accommodations require a specific room assignment, while others may be supported through priority room selection (undergraduate residences only).

Students can check the status of their accommodation request at any time through the Housing Portal under Application → Housing Accommodations.
