A session is a prescribed period of time designated for the delivery of courses and program (academic) registration. York’s sessions are represented as follows:

  • For Undergraduate courses and programs, the sessions are Fall/Winter, and Summer.
  • For Graduate courses and programs, the sessions are Fall, Winter, and Summer.

Typically, the session is expressed by the academic year in which the session begins and an abbreviation of the session. FW for Fall/Winter, FA for Fall, WI for Winter and SU for Summer.

  • An example of an undergraduate session is Fall/Winter 2020 (FW20) which runs from September 2020 to April 2021.
  • An example of a graduate session is Fall 2020 (FA20) which runs from September to December 2020.
  • The Summer 2020 (SU20) session runs from May to August 2021 and is used for both undergraduate and graduate programs.

Some courses do not fit within these sessional dates of the standard sessions described above.
