Gender is a record of a person's self-reported gender identity or expression.

Gender identity is a person’s internal and individual experience of gender. It is a person’s sense of being a woman, a man, both, neither or anywhere along the gender spectrum. Gender identity does not correlate with a person’s assigned sex or to their sexual orientation. A person’s gender identity may change over time. A person’s current gender may differ from the sex a person was assigned at birth and may differ from what is indicated on current legal documents. Examples of gender identities include woman, man, cisgender (including cisgender man or woman), transgender (including transgender man or woman), non-binary and gender nonconforming.
