Credit

Credit

Synonym(s): Course Load

A credit is a measure of the value of a course towards satisfying requirements towards a program (academic). Each course at York is worth a number of credits. Courses can be from 0.00 to 30.00 credits, with no less than 0.50 increments.

Generally, most half-year courses are worth three credits and full-year courses are worth six credits. For example, PSYC 1000 6.00 has a credit value of 6. Courses with greater than 9.00 credits are generally used only as unique place-holder courses that represent academic activity outside of York University. Such activity includes exchange programs, outside-of-class course work, self-study, research, projects, and more.
