A visiting student is a student enrolled in undergraduate or graduate for-credit courses but does not intend to complete a degree, certificate or diploma at York University.

The visiting undergraduate student categories are:

• Those who hold an undergraduate degree (bachelor's degree minimum) from an accredited university/university-level institution;
• Those who do not hold an undergraduate degree but enrol in courses to fulfill the academic, upgrading or professional development requirements of a professional designation; 
• Those who are currently attending another accredited university and enroll in York courses on a letter of permission issued by their home institution.

Visiting graduate students attend York University under the Ontario Visiting Graduate Student Plan or similar programs.
