Sexual orientation is the physical attraction or romantic attraction to people based on their sex, gender identity, or gender expression. A person may identify as bisexual, straight, gay, pansexual, queer, among others.

Sexual orientation is a fundamental part of a person’s identity, and not a choice. It is distinct from gender identity and is listed as prohibited ground of discrimination under the University’s Human Rights Policy and Procedures, as well as a protected ground under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
