Language Proficiency

Synonym(s): N/A

Language proficiency is the ability of a person to use language with a level of accuracy that transfers meaning in production and comprehension.

An applicant must demonstrate their language proficiency in the language of instruction of the program (academic) they are applying to by presenting a minimum proficiency score on an accepted language proficiency test. A program’s language of instruction will vary, with programs at Keele Campus and Markham Campus offered in English, and programs at the Glendon Campus offered in a bilingual environment.

York University reserves the right to require a successfully completed language proficiency test to demonstrate English proficiency and/or French proficiency. Each program identifies the minimum language proficiency score requirements.
