A college is a community of students, faculty members, staff and others within York University. College facilities include residence rooms, coffee shops, lounges, computer workspaces, study rooms and classrooms. Colleges are related to Faculties (see Faculty (Academic Unit)) based on their academic focus. Colleges maintain their own staff and organization.

York University is divided into nine colleges, such as Bethune College, Glendon College, and others. These colleges are akin to small neighbourhoods within the larger University, and each college has its own academic focus.

All undergraduate students select a college affiliation at their enrolment appointment. York University is one of three universities in Canada where all undergraduate students belong to a college.

Colleges at the University should not be confused with a College (Community Partner).
