Tax Receipt

A tax receipt is an official documented acknowledgement from a non-profit organization that, for income tax filing purposes, a charitable donation has been received. Registered charities can issue official donation receipts to acknowledge gifts or pledges. Funds or services received by the non-profit that are not considered 'charitable' do not merit an official donation receipt.
An official tax receipt is subject to particular requirements under the Income Tax Regulations, including identification that it is an official receipt for income tax purposes.
A person donor usually receives a tax receipt, whereas an organization donor receives a business receipt.
