Concurrent Program

Concurrent Program

Synonym(s): N/A

A concurrent program is an academic program pathway that allows students to complete more than one credential or program at the same time. There are three typical concurrent scenarios: concurrent degree, concurrent undergraduate certificate and concurrent graduate diploma.

A concurrent degree allows students to complete two university degrees within the institution at the same time. Currently, the only concurrent degree program available at York University is the Concurrent Bachelor of Education (B. Ed) program. Students complete their B. Ed concurrently with another undergraduate degree program from other select faculties (see Faculty (Academic Unit) at the University.

A concurrent undergraduate certificate allows students to complete a degree program and an undergraduate certificate program within the institution at the same time.

A concurrent graduate diploma allows students to complete a graduate degree program and a graduate diploma program within the institution at the same time. However, these diplomas are typically referred to as Type 2 graduate diplomas rather than concurrent graduate diplomas.

A list of concurrent programs can be found in the program descriptions in the academic calendar. A concurrent program is distinct from a dual credential program, a joint degree program, or a combined degree program.
