An employee number is a unique identifier for each employee at York University. This number is generated in a sequential manner as each employee is hired. Every employee, whether they are academic, non-academic, or casual has an employee number.

If an employee leaves York University and is later re-hired, the same employee number is used. The employee number remains assigned to the employee for their entire career at the University.
