An employee classification is a high-level employee group at York University. These groups are:

• Academic, e.g. faculty

• Non-academic, e.g. staff

• Non-employee

• Casual employee

• Researcher

• Sessional employee

In Human Resources (HR), each concurrent employee record holds an employee classification. An example of this is a full-time Confidential, Professional and Management (CPM) employee with a second role as a casual employee. This employee will be classified as non-academic in their primary role and a casual employee on their second employment record.

HR does not have a record of individuals that are not managed within the Human Capital Management system such as independent consultants or contractors.
