Work Model

Work Model

Synonym(s): Work Arrangement, Work Type, Work Agreement

A work model is the working arrangement that guides the employee's working relationship with the employer. Work models are determined by employment contracts, collective agreements, and policies and procedures.

York University has a Hybrid Work Policy (hereafter Policy) and Procedure that applies to CPM (including Temporary Contract Management employees), YUSA-1 and YUSA-2 employee groups. The work models outlined in the Policy include:

  • Hybrid work arrangement (HWA): is defined as an approved work schedule that specifies where work is performed and at least one day of the week is worked remotely; an HWA is approved by Senior People Managers as defined by the Policy.
  • Fully remote: is staff working 100% remotely and is approved in exceptional circumstances by the Divisional Vice-President.
  • Working outside of the province/country: approved by a People Manager for a limited and defined duration that in no single instance is greater than twenty (20) working days, provided operational requirements are maintained and the employee would not need to be present on campus during this time. Approved in rare and extenuating circumstances by the Divisional Vice-President for up to ninety (90) calendar days in a one-year period.
