Salary Plan
Synonym(s): Band, Grade
A salary plan is a structure that allows an employee to be compensated at a rate of pay within a range or step of the plan. Every role at York University belongs to a salary plan. A salary plan is tied to an employee's job code. A salary plan is related to employee type and may or may not be related to a specific union or affiliation.
Examples of salary plans include the 21 bands of the YUSA 1 compensation framework. Each band has two steps: an entry rate and a job rate step. A new employee receives the entry rate until their probationary period is over, then they transition to the job rate.
Similarly, Confidential, Professional and Managerial employees have salary plans called grades. Each grade has a number of steps within a grade which allow for movement within the grid.
Other salary plans are set up with grade structures that are a range of hourly rates, with a mixture of steps and ranges for each of the different groups.
