An external award is funding available through an agency external to York University. Some external awards are set up to be given out through the University, such as Tri-Council scholarships for graduate students. Other external awards are delivered to students by the external organization.

Students applying for financial aid at York, either through an award application or government agencies (such as the Ontario Student Assistance Program), must report all funding they are receiving from external organizations.
