Financial Waiver
Synonym(s): Academic Fee Waiver, Tuition Fee Waiver
A financial waiver allows eligible York University employees and/or their dependants (see dependant (financial waiver)) to have all or part of their academic fees waived at the regular domestic fee rate for York University degree-credit courses. The Pension and Benefits Office determines eligibility for fee waivers for employees. Senior citizens are also eligible for waivers.
Courses or programs taken through any of the following are not covered by the tuition fee waiver:
- School of Continuing Studies
- Schulich School of Business Executive Education Centre
- Kellogg Schulich Executive MBA
The waiver applies to academic fees only. Students are responsible for any additional charges including interest charges, student health and dental plans (see health plan fee) and course material fees.
The tuition fee waiver is a non-taxable benefit for employees, but it is a taxable benefit for dependents and senior citizens.
The fee waiver is capped for senior citizens to the level of tuition fees assigned to domestic, non-professional undergraduate or graduate arts, science and other programs as defined in the tuition fee guidelines from the Ministry of Colleges and Universities. The tuition fee waiver for an eligible senior citizen is restricted to a maximum of one (1) undergraduate and one (1) graduate degree.
