Senior Citizen

Senior Citizen

Synonym(s): Senior

A senior citizen for the purposes of an academic fee waiver (see financial waiver) is a student who is 60 years of age or older by May 1st for registration in the summer and September 1 for registration in fall/winter courses.

Academic fees at the domestic rate will be waived for all Canadian citizens or permanent residents (see immigration status) aged 60 years or older. This applies whether a student is registered in a degree course, as a visiting student or as an auditor.

The benefit is granted automatically. Fee waivers are considered a taxable benefit. The maximum fees waived are capped at the level of tuition fees assigned to domestic, non-professional undergraduate or graduate arts, science and other program (academic)s. The waiver is restricted for use on a maximum of one undergraduate and one graduate degree.

Students are required to pay all other fees attached to a course or program or required during the application process.

Courses or programs taken through any of the following are not eligible for the senior fee waiver:

  • School of Continuing Studies
  • Schulich School of Business Executive Education Centre
  • Kellogg Schulich Executive MBA (EMBA)
