Registered Student

The status of being registered in an academic session as a student at York University is achieved by meeting criteria determined by the Office of the University Registrar from time to time, and requires that a student:

satisfy the academic requirements for enrolment in a chosen program (academic)

be enrolled in an academic programme for credit; and

has paid fees or exhibited such other intention to pursue a course of studies as may be determined to be sufficient from time to time.
Registered students have a registration status of registered active or registered inactive (graduate students only) and meet the following criteria:

New undergraduate students must be enrolled in courses for the session and have paid the enrolment deposit.

Continuing undergraduate students must be enrolled in courses for the session. The automated registration process registers students as continuing students as the registration reason after they enrol and have a session activity entry status of continuing, degree change, Faculty (academic unit) transfer, moved, reactivated, or reactivated two years plus.

Graduate students must be enrolled in courses (if applicable) and agreed to pay fees for the session. Graduate students must maintain continuous registration in all terms: Fall, Winter and Summer, until graduation, subject to the time limits stated by the Faculty of Graduate Studies Regulations, and must pay the appropriate term fee.
