French Proficiency
Synonym(s): N/A
French proficiency is a student's ability to speak, read, write and understand the French language. If a student's first language is not French and they are enrolling in a degree or program at York where the language of instruction is French, they must demonstrate a certain level of language proficiency. This demonstration is required to ensure that they will be able to handle the demands of University-level studies in French.
Applicants can demonstrate proficiency by proving they have completed a required number of years of study in a French-medium institution or by submitting French proficiency test results.
Applicants who decide to submit a French proficiency test score can choose from the list of York University-approved French language tests, for example:
- Test de connaissance du français (TCF)
- Test d’évaluation de français (TEF)
