The Workers’ Justice Course brings workers and community members together to learn about workplace rights, examine the forces shaping their working lives, and develop strategies for collective action.
Rooted in popular education, the course begins with participants’ own knowledge and experiences. Over eight in-person sessions, participants explore issues including unsafe work, wage theft, employer power, workers’ rights, organizing, and solidarity. The course combines practical information with discussion, shared learning, and collective problem-solving.
The free course is designed for workers and community members in Jane-Finch, Rexdale, and Northwest Toronto, with particular attention to racialized workers, newcomers, youth, non-unionized workers, and people in precarious employment. Dinner, TTC support, and childcare are provided to make participation more accessible.
Two cohorts have completed the course so far, the first in Fall 2025 and the second in Spring 2026. A third cohort will begin in Fall 2026, continuing to grow this community of learning and action across Northwest Toronto.
The course is organized through a partnership between the Global Labour Research Centre at York University, the Jane/Finch Centre, and the Jane Finch Education Action Group.
