New Asia Colloquia Paper by Yen Le Espiritu | Vietnam, the Philippines, Guam and California: Connecting the Dots of U.S. Military Empire

Based on YCAR's 2015 Asia Lecture, our latest Asia Colloquia Paper  by Yen Le Espiritu examines how military colonialism in the Asia Pacific region enabled the construction of the United States as a "refuge" for Vietnamese refugees.  Using the example of the Vietnam war, she elaborates on her conceptualization of "militarized refuge" to show how U.S. imperialism works to construct narratives of war and refuge.
