The Digital Humanities & Social Sciences for Teaching & Learning Showcase: The David Wurfel Fonds

YCAR Associate, Wendy Alejandra Medina De Loera (Doctoral student, Geography) presented a digital collection of archival materials from the David Wurfel fonds for the Digital Humanities and Social Sciences for Teaching and Learning project in May 2018.

Her presentation, “The Making of a Digital Archive, By a Non-archivist: The David Wurfel Fonds,” highlighted over 200 photographic slides, articles and newspaper clippings from the physical David Wurfel fonds held at the Clara Thomas Archives and Special Collections in Scott Library at York University. Philippines scholar David Wurfel donated the materials in the 2000s.

Wendy's work was part of the May 2018 Digital Humanities and Social Sciences for Teaching and Learning Showcase. These projects marked the end of Phase 2 of a four phase AIF grant where the Office of the Vice Provost and York University Libraries will take students’ DHSS projects and use them to extrapolate best practices for DHSS pedagogy. The aligned Instructor’s Guide and Library Supports will be available early-July.
