Griffin Cahill is a PhD student in Linguistics & Applied Linguistics at York University. His research centres on languages undergoing revitalization, minority languages, indigenous languages, and the speech of "new speakers" of these languages in Canada and elsewhere. This research includes ongoing work on Teochew, a Southern Min language originating in eastern Guangdong but now in widespread use in the Chinese diaspora in Southeast Asia and North America. He is also interested in the nascent Ainu language revitalization movement in Hokkaido.
