Chloe Panaligan (she/her) is a PhD student in the Joint Communication & Culture program at York University and Toronto Metropolitan University. She received her Honours Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Criminology and Sociolegal Studies at the University of Toronto and her Master of Arts in Art History and Visual Culture from York University. Her MA research centred around the works of Filipinx contemporary diasporic artists in Canada, and how they mobilized the quotidian as a form of resistance against colonial and linear time in their artistic practices. Her PhD dissertation examines material excess and maximalism as defining aesthetics of the Filipinx diaspora. Her research is centred around art historical pedagogies, as she focuses on the dense and maximalist interiors of Filipino homes, examining how these spaces might be understood not as sites of clutter, but as material archives of diasporic life.
