Trichy Sankaran received his PhD from University of Victoria in 1998. He is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Music, York University. He received a number of honours and awards including Toronto Arts Council Award and Ontario Arts Council Composers’ Grant. His research interest focuses on ethnomusicology with a regional interest in Indian music, particularly South Indian music culture. He is the author of The Rhythmic Principles and Practice of South Indian Drumming (Lalith Publishers, 2002). He has authored a number of articles, including “Guru Samarpan,” written in Tamil for the Golden Jubilee Souvenir (Kalalayam Percussive Arts Center, Chennai, India, 2005) and “Voice Culture in Carnatic Music” (KALA, Spring 2004). Professor Sankaran participated and contributed to different musical scores, conferences, contemporary and traditional concerts as well as in festivals. He was the narrator and performer of Multifaith Music on Vision Television, Toronto.
