Each year, the York University community comes together through the York Cares United Way Campaign to support United Way Greater Toronto, which is dedicated to fighting poverty and strengthening communities across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
With more than 70 years of experience, the organization works to address local poverty and its interconnected challenges by investing in programs and partnerships that empower individuals and strengthen neighbourhoods in Peel, Toronto and York Region.
Building a GTA for all requires determination and collective action. York University maintains strong connections and collaborations with many United Way-funded agencies. Students have completed internships, placements and accepted employment at several of these organizations – including 360°kids, COSTI Immigrant Services, Canadian Mental Health Assocciation-York-Simcoe, Community Living York South, Working Women Community Centre and more.
The York Cares United Way Campaign builds on these efforts, as well as the University’s own goals.
"York University is committed to driving positive change in bold new ways to impact our community and the world around us. This campaign aligns with our mission to support our community," says Yvette Munro, vice-provost students at York.
This year’s York Cares United Way Campaign runs from Nov. 5 to 30, with a goal of raising $150,000 to help build a better, more equitable GTA.
Starting Nov. 5, all staff, faculty and instructors will receive a personalized electronic pledge form by email.
