Constellations, Confrontations, and Aspirations
Reflections on Diaspora and Transnationalism Through the Lens of Youth Formations
22-23 May 2012 | York University
This workshop examines, through a comparative lens and within a framework of transnational relations, contemporary forms of youth social and political engagement and the construction of youth subjectivities during times of major societal transformations. It brings together junior and senior scholars as well as advanced graduate students in the social sciences and humanities, whose research interest in this particular topic is embedded within broader, interdisciplinary approaches to the critical study of modernity, multiculturalism and the state, diaspora and transnationalism, feminist studies in state, security and migration, as well as the field of religion and secularism. The key focus in this workshop rests on South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, including the respective diasporic populations.
This workshop is supported by the York Centre for Asian Research (YCAR) and The Harriet Tubman Institute for Research on the Global Migrations of African Peoples at York University .
