YUPC is pleased to announce an addition to the fall 2017 training series for community based mental health practitioners. Emotion-Focused Family Therapy will be offered again during the fall. 

THe 2018 program is described below and registration will open July 10, 2017. In the 2018 calendar of training, you will notice that the Level 1 and 2 Institutes have been increased to 5 days. Dr. Greenberg will be joined by Dr. Jeanne Watson in the Level 1 Institute where there will be more focus on empathy training.  Dr. Shari Geller will be joining Dr. Greenberg in the Level 2 Institute to give additional training in therapeutic presence.

Description of Upcoming Events

Emotion-focused Summer Institutes 2017

The 20th annual Toronto summer Emotion-focused Institutes (level one & two) with Dr. Les Greenberg will be held in Toronto from August 8 - 11, 2017 (level one) and August 15 -18, 2017 (level two). The workshops will be held of York University Psychology Clinic, home to the Emotion Focused Therapy Clinic.

Please register early as enrollment is strictly limited to 30 participants for Level One (Fee:  $1425.00 CDN) and  20 participants for Level Two (Fee: $1895 CDN).  Registration can be secured in each Institute with a $250.00 non-refundable deposit.  The remainder of the fee will be due in June 2017.

EFT Level Three Institute (October 26 - October 28, 2017)

This 3 day Institute involves supervision and discussion/consultation by Dr. Les Greenberg of cases which each registrant brings. The group will consist of 12 participants and each person will have the opportunity to present one or more video or audio recorded sessions or transcripts of sessions for supervision. In addition issues of application and advanced skills will be discussed and practiced if desire.

Prerequisite: EFT Institutes level one and two

EFT Level One Fall Institute - November 1 - 4, 2017

This intensive 4 day training Institute provides participants with solid grounding in the skills required to work more directly with emotions in psychotherapy. The focus of the program will be experiential, learning how to provide change in core emotional structures. Participants receive in depth skill training through a combination of brief lectures, video demonstrations, live modelling, case discussions and extensive supervised role-playing practice.

Emotion-focused Family Therapy (EFFT) (November 14 - 17, 2017

The Emotion-focused Therapy Clinic at York University is pleased to announce a 4-day intensive training Institute in Emotion-focused Family Therapy for mental health issues across the lifespan.  Part of the Emotion-Focused Therapy "family" and rooted in a deep and unwavering belief in the healing power of families, the essence of EFFT is to afford caregivers a significant role in their loved one’s mental health and well-being. 

This training is suited for newcomers to EFFT as well as those with prior training and experience.  The foundation and basics will be covered.  The training model is then designed to introduce beginners to the approach and give them a working experiential knowledge of the model.  And for those with previous experience, they will have the opportunity to grow their expertise, increase and deepen their experiential practice, and further expand their skills set.  The training will thus be highly focused on practice change at various levels of experience and will include new as well as expanded and deepened experiential exercises.

Enrollment will be limited to 30 registrants.

EFT Couples Institute (December 6 - Dec. 9, 2017)

This 4 day skills based training insitute will cover the 5 stage, 14 step expanded model of EFT-C focusing on attachment and identity needs and self and other soothing. As an emotion-focused therapy we focus on how to work with emotions such as anger, sadness, fear and shame. Participants will be asked to identify key interactional cycles in their own primary relationships and work on undoing these by accessing their own primary underlying emotions in the training.

Emotion- Focused Therapy for Complex Relational Trauma (April 17 - 20, 2018)

This four-day training is geared toward practicing professionals with a basic knowledge of Emotion-Focused Therapy (e.g., EFT Level One). It includes material on the nature of complex trauma and the central role of narrative and emotional processes in the development of disturbance, the EFTT treatment model and how EFTT addresses central features of disturbance. Training also includes numerous videotaped examples illustrating EFTT treatment principles, and supervised peer-skills practice. Practice will focus on the general principles of EFT specifically tailored to the needs of this client group over the phases of EFTT. This includes training in interventions for cultivating and maintaining a safe and empathic therapeutic relationship; for evoking and processing trauma feelings and memories; for reducing fear, avoidance, and shame; for resolving attachment injuries with specific perpetrators through expressions of anger and sadness; and alternatives to chair-work for clients who are unable or unwilling to engage in these evocative procedures.

Emotion-Focused Therapy - Graduate Student Level One Institute (May 14 - 19, 2018)

This 5 day Institute has been designed to meet the needs of clinical graduate students both in terms of content and price. It describes the theoretical underpinnings of emotion-focused therapy and then provides skills based practice in using this approach.

Participants receive in depth skill training through a combination of brief lectures, video demonstrations, live modelling, case discussions and extensive supervised role-playing practice. Supervised role-playing practice will involve supervised experiential practice in which participants learn by working as both a client and a therapist in small groups. 

Completion of this Institute, enables participants to register for the regular EFT Level Two Institute programs.

Cancellation Policy for 1 - 2 day training events

When cancellations are made more than 14 days prior to the workshop date, you have a choice: receive a refund (less $50.00 administration charge) or a credit for the full amount (less $20.00) to any future York University Psychology Clinic (YUPC) workshop.

If cancellation is received fewer than 14 days prior to the workshop date you will receive a credit (less $50.00 administration charge) to any future YUPC workshop.

We regret that a refund/credit cannot be offered if your cancellation is not received at least one full business day prior to the day of the workshop. Alternatively, a colleague may attend in your place at no extra cost. Please notify us in advance of the name of the person attending.

Cancellation Policy for 4 -day Institutes

The 4 - day Institutes requires a $250.00 non-refundable deposit due to increased staffing requirements of these sessions.  These non-refundable deposits are not transferable, unless we are able to fill the vacancy created by the change in plans.

When cancellations are made 28 days prior to the workshop date, you have a choice:  receive a refund (less the $250.00 non-refundable deposit)or a credit towards a future Institute.

We regret that a refund/credit cannot be offered if your cancellation is received with fewer than 28 days notice prior to the workshop date.
