About the opportunity

The translator (Bilingual Content) translates and localizes Black Entrepreneurship Alliance‘s(BEA) social media and digital marketing content from English into French, delivered in batches. The role ensures BEA reaches Francophone Black entrepreneurs and professionals across Southern Ontario in both official languages. This is not a literal translation; it calls for cultural adaptation and brand-consistent French that reads as if written natively.

Core Responsibilities
  • Batch Translation Translate scheduled social media content (posts, captions, hashtags, image and video text) and digital marketing communications (newsletters, email campaigns, event invitations, landing pages, web copy) from English into French. Work from BEA’s content calendar and return publish-ready French versions by agreed deadlines.
  • Localization and Transcreation Adapt tone, idiom, and cultural references so French content carries the same intent and energy as the English original, maintaining BEA’s brand voice. Apply Canadian French conventions and confirm regional preferences with the Communications Lead.
  • Terminology and Consistency Build and maintain a bilingual glossary covering BEA program names, taglines, and recurring phrases so translations stay consistent across channels and over time.
  • Quality Assurance Proofread all French content for grammar, accuracy, and consistency before delivery, and review published content for formatting or accent errors.
  • Workflow and Collaboration Coordinate translation batches with the publishing schedule, communicate turnaround times, and support occasional rush translations as capacity allows.
Success metrics

Batches delivered by agreed deadlines set out by Senior Marketing and Creative Lead. Target share of BEA public-facing content available in French. Low revision rate, with French content publishable with minimal edits. Glossary maintained and applied across channels.

What this placement requires

Current Glendon or other York University student eligible for an Experiential Education placement. Strong written French (near-native or advanced) with solid written English. Translation, French studies, and communications students are especially encouraged. An interest in marketing and a feel for adapting copy so it engages, not just informs. Familiarity with social media and digital marketing formats. Strong attention to detail, especially with accents, terminology, and brand language. Ability to manage batch workloads and meet deadlines with light supervision.

What the student gains

Portfolio-building translation and transcreation experience for a real organization with live audiences. Mentorship from BEA’s marketing & communications team and a reference at the end of the term.
