Admission Requirements

Preparing your application to graduate studies at York University and/or other interested universities requires research and planning. Some students start preparing their plan for graduate studies as early as two years before they submit their application. Consider the following information below to help guide you through a successful application process.

  • Honours BA in an area relevant to graduate study in Humanities, or its equivalent, with a grade average of at least B+ in the last two years of study.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • Your statement of interest is a brief (2 pages or so) description of your qualifications (academic or work) for admission, your interests in our program (areas of scholarship, faculty members you may wish to work with, etc.), and, most importantly, what you will be working on for your major project, for master’s students, their MRP; for PhD, their dissertation. In describing your project, try as best you can to position it in current scholarship.
  • Sample of written academic work relevant to graduate study in Humanities (max. 20p).
  • MA degree with a grade average of at least B+ in an area relevant to undertaking doctoral study in Humanities, or its equivalent.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • Your statement of interest is a brief (2 pages or so) description of your qualifications (academic or work) for admission, your interests in our program (areas of scholarship, faculty members you may wish to work with, etc.), and, most importantly, what you will be working on for your major project, for master’s students, their MRP; for PhD, their dissertation. In describing your project, try as best you can to position it in current scholarship.
