Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT)

It is an unfortunate fact that many children and adolescents experience traumatic events such as child abuse, domestic violence, rape, violent crime, community violence, natural disasters, war, terrorism, and the death of loved ones under traumatic circumstances. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment developed to help children and their parents or other caregivers overcome the negative effects of trauma and traumatic grief. TF-CBT is a clinic-based, short-term treatment that teaches children skills in stress management, cognitive processing, communication, problem-solving, and safety.

Through a generous donation from the Canadian Crime Victims Foundation, York University Psychology Clinic is able to offer free of charge Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) to a number of children or youth who has been a victim of a violent crime or impacted by crime as a result of having a family member who was a victim. There is an application process and one requirement is that the crime has been reported to and investigated by police.

To learn more about this service please call the Clinic at 416-650-8488 and ask to speak to Dr. Jessica Abrams (schroede@yorku.ca), Clinic Director.
