Community Updates
The University is pleased to have reached a tentative agreement with CUPE 1356-1, the union representing Security and Parking Officers in the Community Safety and Parking Services departments. The agreement, which was reached on October 2, 2025, without the assistance of a third party, is now subject to ratification by both parties.
Negotiations have commenced with OPSEU Local 578-1, the union representing the University’s instructors at the York University English Language Institute (“YUELI”). The parties met on October 1, 2025, and are scheduled to meet again on October 23, 2025.
On September 17, 2025, the University wrote to the York University Staff Association (YUSA) president regarding collective bargaining with YUSA-2, which represents staff performing office, clerical, laboratory or technical work for not more than 24 hours a week. The University proposed several upcoming meeting dates and hopes to hear back soon so that negotiations for a renewal agreement for YUSA-2 represented employees can commence.
York and CUPE 1356 achieve renewal collective agreement
The University and CUPE 1356, the union representing York employees who work in maintenance, services and plant operations, have now successfully concluded and ratified a three-year renewal collective agreement.
This agreement was reached following 11 productive and efficient meetings during which the parties were able to resolve all outstanding issues through direct negotiations and without the assistance of the Ministry of Labour or any other third party.
The University would like to thank the members of both bargaining teams for their hard work and commitment to achieve a negotiated renewal agreement.
The University and CUPE 1356, the union representing York employees who work in maintenance, services and plant operations, have reached a tentative agreement. Ratification by both parties will take place by 11:59 pm on July 16, 2025.
