Peer Researcher Ad

Call for Peer Researchers


We are currently seeking Peer Researchers in The Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick to:

  • Coordinate individual and group interviews, including the payment of participant honoraria, consent and data collection;
  • Conduct 60-minute individual interviews with 2SLGBTQ+ people with a history of or currently living in poverty;
  • Co-facilitate 90-minute interview groups with between 10 – 12 2SLGBTQ+ people with a history of or currently living in poverty;
  • Create notes for each individual and group interview;
  • Audio-record interviews and submit files to Peer Researcher Coordinators;
  • Check accuracy of transcripts;
  • Be in regular communication with Peer Research Coordinators

Peer Researcher assets include:

  • Identify as 2SLGBTQ+ or have a demonstrated relationship, connection with, and/or knowledge of 2SLGBTQ+ communities;
  • Be 18 years of age or older;
  • Reside in Canada;
  • Have previous experience and/or currently experiencing poverty;
  • Have a research experience in conducting individual interviews and/or facilitating focus groups;
  • Understand and fluently speak English and/or French;
  • Be available to conduct in-person, virtual, and telephone interviews and in-person and virtual focus groups

Training will be provided to all Peer Researchers.

If required, related travel expenses will be covered.

Who we are

The 2SLGBTQ+ Poverty in Canada: Improving Livelihood and Social Wellbeing is a new project funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) to study both the extent and effects of poverty of the 2SLGBTQ+ communities across Canada, and importantly produce and evidence based action plan that can assist governmental agencies, non-profits, and community organizations to address poverty therein.


Who we are looking for

We are looking forward to building new partnerships with other community organizations across Canada. There are 3 Tiers of Partnership and lots of ways to get involved!

We want to hear from you if you

  • live in Prince Edward Island, Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia and Nunavut are 18 years old and over
  • identify as being from the diverse 2SLGBTQ+ communities
  • are experiencing/have experienced poverty
  • have some community work
  • experience (either paid or voluntary)
