Indigenous Climate Change Futures

This SSHRC-funded project (2021-2025) seeks to better understand climate justice issues facing Indigenous peoples and propose viable approaches to seeking a sustainable climate future on Indigenous peoples’ own terms.

The Indigenous Environmental Justice Project

A SSHRC-funded initiative (2016-2021) based out of York University that aimed to develop a distinctive EJ framework that is informed by Indigenous knowledge systems, laws, concepts of justice and the lived experiences of Indigenous peoples.

The Significance of Water

MES Graduate and IEJ Project team member Nasreen Hussain created a video for the completion of her MES program. The purpose of this film is to provide viewers with a fresh perspective on water and what we can do to help re-purpose the current relationship humans have with it.

Indigenous Legal Methodologies and Water Governance in Canada

Laura Grace MacLean wrote a Major Research Paper which examined several of the methodologies that currently exist for uncovering and understanding Indigenous laws in Canada and analyzed some applications along with the similarities and differences between them.

"We are the Movement": Tkaranto-based Indigenous Youth Explore Environmental (In)Justice

Megan Dellavilla wrote a Major Research Paper that examined how to better support Indigenous youth in their efforts to move toward (environmental) justice while simultaneously striving to ensure that the voices of city-based, Indigenous youth are represented.
