Indigenous-led land acknowledgements gifted to York U community
Three new land acknowledgements developed by the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation (MCFN) will guide how York University recognizes and honours the territories on which its campuses are situated. Introduced as part of the renewed Memorandum of Understanding between York University and MCFN, the acknowledgements are intended to support respectful and consistent use across University events, communications and learning environments.
The new acknowledgements, available for Keele and Glendon campuses, Markham Campus, and all York locations across the Greater Toronto Area, are accompanied by protocols and supporting resources developed by Indigenous Initiatives and the Division of Equity, People & Culture. A new online hub provides access to the official statements, pronunciation guides, usage recommendations and additional resources to support the York community in incorporating the MCFN-authored acknowledgements into daily practice.
