York University fosters a culture of accountability through effective ethical, legal, environmental, managerial, and professional standards. We are equally committed to acting in accordance with all applicable legislation and regulatory requirements, as well as the University’s policies and procedures.
If an employee has knowledge of improper activity that has occurred, or is occurring, they are encouraged to report the suspected misconduct directly to their immediate supervisor, or the academic or administrative unit responsible for the area of concern.
Should an employee feel uncomfortable or fear reprisal in disclosing through these channels, the University Whistleblower Policy allows York U employees, to make disclosures in good faith and completely anonymously. Disclosures made under this policy can be addressed by the University when no other established University procedures apply.
What is an Improper Activity?
Improper activity is defined as “an act or omission that an employee knew or reasonably ought to have known to be wrong or inappropriate.” Improper activity includes, but is not limited to:
- Significant financial misconduct;
- Theft, fraud, and/or misappropriation of University assets;
- Forgery, falsification, and/or inappropriate alteration or destruction of university records (paper and electronic); and,
- The act of concealing or attempting to conceal an improper activity, and/or knowingly directing or assisting in the commission or concealment of an improper activity.
How to Make a Disclosure
This website provides York U employees with access to a confidential mechanism to disclose information via a secure website. The online form provides the option to disclose anonymously; however, the ability of the University to address a good faith disclosure may be limited when the disclosure is anonymous. Employees may also submit a good faith disclosure via mail to the following address:
