Important Residence Update

Important Residence Update

As you may be aware, all in-person exams have been cancelled and your instructors are making alternative arrangements. You will hear more from them soon. As a result of the in-person exam cancellation, we are strongly advising you to return to your permanent or family home. If you can leave residence this week, please do so as soon as possible. If you cannot return home and have extenuating circumstances, read on for the plans in place to help.

Please notify us of your plans no later than Wednesday, March 18 by completing the Changes To Your Housing Status Form after reviewing the options below.

I can go home and fully move out of my residence room

  • Ensure you have removed all belongings from your room.
  • Dispose of or remove all food items.
  • Lock your door and close your windows.
  • Return your keys (e.g., mailbox, room) to the appropriate Housing Office.

I can go home, BUT I am unable to fully move out of my residence room now (and I will need to return to collect my belongings)

  • Take the necessary belongings home with you, remove all food items and unplug all electrical devices.
  • Lock your door and close your windows.
  • Return your keys (e.g., mailbox, room) to the appropriate Housing Office.
  • Housing & Conference Services staff will work with you to facilitate a later date to move out your remaining belongings.

I am already at home, but I still have my keys
You do not need to return to campus to check-out.

  • If you have already removed all your belongings, please email undergradres@yorku.ca to let us know and mail us your keys c/o Housing & Conference Services.
  • If you still have belongings in your room/unit, please email undergradres@yorku.ca so that the Housing & Conference Services staff can work with you to facilitate a later date to move out your remaining belongings. In the meantime, please mail us your keys c/o Housing & Conference Services.

If you have extenuating circumstances and cannot make alternate arrangements or travel home

  • Adhere to the preventative guidelines on the University's COVID19 website.
  • Practice social distancing. Avoiding social gatherings can help to prevent the spread of illness.
  • Essential food services remain in operation, but schedules and availability may change. Please check www.yorku.ca/food for the most up to date information on locations and hours of operation.
  • Should you develop symptoms you should contact Toronto Public Health and do as instructed by Public Health Officials or a health care provider. Please notify reslife@yorku.ca.
  • If you are remaining in residence, the Changes To Your Housing Status Form will help identify the level of support we can provide.

If you have travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days, you must self-isolate. Please  make sure you complete the Recent Travel Reporting Form. Residents may be moved to another room or building without notice to support self-isolation measures.

Note that only residents living in their residence and staff are permitted in each building. Further, family members who may be helping you move out are welcome to load items you bring outside into vehicles, but they are not to enter the building.
