Sherry (Sharareh) Kashi

Sherry (Sharareh) Kashi is a Ph.D. candidate in Education at York University's Faculty of Education. As an interdisciplinary scholar, she possesses a profound passion for exploring the complexities of forced migration, participation, and barriers to access in higher education, as well as the issues surrounding refugee youth belonging, internationalization of higher education, migration, and integration.

Her doctoral research involves an ethnographic study centered around the experiences of resettled refugee youth in Canada as they make sense of their belonging and negotiate citizenship. By exploring their lived experiences, Sherry hopes to contribute valuable insights to the existing knowledge in this area. In recognition of the potential impact of her research, Sherry has been fortunate to receive the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship, which provides essential support for her academic journey. She remains deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of those affected by forced migration and seeks to foster greater inclusivity and opportunities for underrepresented individuals in higher education.
