On October 23, Global Health & Humanitarianism Research Fellow Syed Imran Ali delivered a seminar titled Bridging Research + Practice: Case Study of Chemical Water Quality and Child Malnutrition in a Humanitarian Setting at the Dahdaleh Institute.
Concerns about chemical water quality in intensive therapeutic feeding centres (ITFCs) have persisted among humanitarian fieldworkers for a decade, yet there are no established guidelines for the chemical makeup of water added to the therapeutic feeding and rehydration products used to treat children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM). In the seminar, Dr. Ali told the story and the science behind his research to establish the chemical water quality guidelines for ITFCs in humanitarian response.
