Dr. Sintayehu Daba Wami is a Connected Minds–funded Postdoctoral Fellow in the Faculty of Health at York University. He holds a PhD in Rehabilitation Science and has an interdisciplinary background in occupational health and safety. His research focuses on strengthening rehabilitation and occupational health systems through the design, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based, scalable interventions that enhance health outcomes and promote sustainable work participation.
As part of his postdoctoral program, Dr. Wami leads a research initiative developing predictive models and an artificial intelligence–driven risk stratification tool to support personalized rehabilitation and return-to-work interventions for individuals with work-related musculoskeletal disorders. His work integrates big data analytics and digital health innovations to generate context-responsive, equity-oriented solutions.
Grounded in a global health perspective, his research spans diverse settings, including low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), with the goal of reducing musculoskeletal-related disability and strengthening health system responses to workplace injury, climate-related occupational risks, and work-related mental health challenges. He employs mixed-methods research, evidence synthesis, stakeholder engagement, and co-design approaches to ensure meaningful knowledge translation and policy impact.
Previously, Dr. Wami served as a faculty member and departmental head at the University of Gondar, Ethiopia, and has authored more than 35 peer-reviewed publications.
