Additional Qualifications

Get your head start!

Congratulations to our graduating class of York U Teachers!

Your Professional Learning journey begins now.

Additional Qualifications (AQs) are courses offered by accredited providers available to members of the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT). Ontario teachers take AQs to teach an additional subject or division, to better support students and to increase their earning potential.

York University’s AQs are taught by seasoned educators with years of classroom experience. These Instructional Leaders will guide and mentor you through your first AQ experience.

As a soon-to-be York U Alumni, you benefit from a $50 discount. This discount will be available to you for all future AQs you choose to take with us.

Here’s your chance to get a head start on earning your first AQ. We’ve curated a list of Additional Qualification courses you are eligible to take as a new Ontario teacher.

You can register for an AQ course offered this May and June if:

  • you have successfully completed all the graduation components of your B.Ed program (even if you have a Temporary Certificate) and
  • you have started the registration process to become a member with the OCT

The AQ will appear on your OCT certificate once you are fully certified.
