Global Program Innovation

York University provides opportunities for students to engage with one another and with peers around the world to exchange ideas and knowledge, incorporate new perspectives, and co-create sustainable and inclusive global solutions. Our principles of inclusion and sustainability mean that we will prioritize, invest, and accelerate initiatives at home including internationalization of the curriculum and co-curriculum.

Globally Networked Learning (GNL)

Globally networked learning (GNL) refers to an approach to learning, and teaching that connects students, faculty, from different locations around the world. Students from different institutions participate in, and collaborate on, knowledge-making processes and concrete teaching projects that provide international experiences with a focus on intercultural competency development.

International Indigenous Student Exchange Program

Understanding that Indigeneity transcends regional and national contexts, York University launched the International Indigenous Student Exchange Program which aims to provide opportunities for dialogue and collaboration between Indigenous students at York and their peers located in Australia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico and the Philippines.

Go Global SDGs in Action Student Challenge

York University’s Go Global SDGs in Action Student Challenge set out to empower York students and their peers around the world to take action towards the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goals  (SDGs) with a global lens.

Effective Intercultural Communication (EIC)

As the nature of collaborations, work and workspaces change, effective intercultural communication will become even more essential in creating inclusive environments and in enhancing cross-cultural understanding between peoples of different backgrounds and cultures. The EIC Module provides an opportunity for student to develop their intercultural competencies and skills.

SDG Course Mapping

In 2022, York undertook an evaluation of its course inventory to map the university’s curriculum to the United Nations’ SDGs. From this data set, York determined that of the 4236 courses in the 2022 course inventory, 1,635 were directly relevant to a Sustainable Development Goal (approximately 38.5% of all courses). Of these, a further 285 were relevant to multiple SDGs. This places York University as amongst the top echelon of global universities in the teaching and knowledge mobilization of the SDGs.

Sustainable on the Go (SOTG) Initiative

SOTG seeks to address student and scholar mobility in a responsible manner with aim to contribute to UN Sustainable Development Goals and incorporating the principles of inclusivity and innovation. It will offer proactive, collaborative, engaging, and educational approach for student mobility programs through combining international, experiential, and sustainability aspects while reimagining the university’s mobility programs.
