In addition to the regulations of the Faculty of Graduate Studies pertaining to all Master's degrees, candidates for the Master of Arts (MA) and Master of Science (MSc) degrees in Kinesiology and Health Science are required to complete the following:
- One of either Univariate (KAHS 6010 3.0) or Multivariate (KAHS 6020 3.0) statistics;
- Graduate seminar (KAHS 6210 3.0);
- One practicum (KAHS 5400 3.0);
- Two half-course electives from within the Kinesiology and Health Science graduate course offerings;
- One of either a second practicum (KAHS 5410 3.0) or a third elective graduate half course, as specified by the supervisor; and
- A thesis that demonstrates independence, originality, and advanced understanding of the area of study. After formal submission of the thesis, it will be examined according to the Faculty of Graduate Studies: Theses and Dissertation Guidelines.
In addition to the regulations of the Faculty of Graduate Studies pertaining to all Master's degrees, candidates for the Master of Fitness Science (MFSc) degree (non-thesis) in Kinesiology and Health Science are required to complete the following:
- One of either Univariate (KAHS 6010 3.0) or Multivariate (KAHS 6020 3.0) Statistics;
- Two Practica (KAHS 5400 6.0 and KAHS 5410 6.0);
- Four half course electives from within the Kinesiology and Health Science graduate course offerings;
- Submit a written paper to the student’s supervisor.
NOTE: KAHS 5400 6.0 and 5410 6.0, Part I and Part II (Fitness Practicum) are completed in applied exercise physiology environments. This comprehensive practicum experience is an integral component of the MFSc students’ knowledge and practical skill development. It involves both laboratory and fieldwork in which students gain experience in physical activity prescription and intervention. As well, community work placement opportunities expose the student to health/performance-related physical activity/fitness environments and chronic disease-oriented clinical environments. These placements occur during the Fall/Winter and the Summer/Fall terms and involve a contract between the on‐site placement supervisor and the MFSc student documenting the specific requirements of the placement.
Program Requirements
The Master of Athletic Therapy (MAT) is a full-time program delivered over six consecutive terms across two academic years, including summer sessions. The program consists of a total of 81.0 credits, including 78 credits of required core courses and 3 credits of electives.
The program uses a range of learning strategies to support student development, including lectures, seminars, inquiry-based tutorials, skills-based laboratories, and practical experiences in both field and clinical settings.
These requirements are designed to ensure that program objectives are met and that students are prepared to pursue certification as Certified Athletic Therapists in Canada. The structure and comprehensive curriculum provide graduates with both depth and breadth of knowledge in Athletic Therapy, along with the ability to apply this knowledge across multiple populations and practice settings, including experience with diverse demographic groups.

Program Length
The MAT is a two-year, full-time program delivered over six consecutive terms.
Candidates for the doctoral degree will be required to complete the following, in addition to the regulations of the Faculty of Graduate Studies pertaining to all Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees:
- Graduate seminar (KAHS 7200 3.0 and KAHS 7210 3.0);
- Two half graduate course electives at the KAHS 6000 level , as specified by the supervisor;
- Comprehensive exam and dissertation proposal;
- Dissertation research that demonstrates a high degree of independence, originality, and an advanced understanding of the area of study. After formal submission of the dissertation, it will be examined according to Faculty of Graduate Studies : Thesis and Dissertation Guidelines.
