Partner Summer Schools

“I decided to go abroad in order to expand my knowledge of the Croatian language and culture, as this is where my parents are from. I had such an amazing time meeting people from all over - Germany, Switzerland, Peru, Ukraine and so many more! I also grew to be much more independent and resourceful, using these skills to travel to over ten different countries in the span of six months. Study abroad for 2 to 6 weeks in the summer at one of YorkU’s global partner institutions! These programs run between May and August and offer a unique chance to explore a new city or country, experience a different culture, and earn credits toward your degree. Designed with hands-on learning in mind, summer programs combine academics with immersive experiences- whether you're learning a new language, trying local cuisine, or navigating life in a new environment, the world truly becomes your classroom!

Knowing when to apply for a summer program is a key part of the process. Deadline for Summer 2026: March 1st. For more program deadlines, please review our Global Learning Deadlines page.

  • We're here to help! Please reach out to one of our global learning coordinators who can help you through the summer school application process. We have in-person advising, virtual advising, and information sessions available to connect with you and answer your questions!
  • Schulich students maybe eligible for the partner summer programs. For inquiries regarding summer programs available to Schulich students, please reach out to Schulich exchange team – exchange@schulich.yorku.ca

Please consult your academic advisor before deciding to apply for the program, as each degree program may have different requirements for participating in a study abroad program.

Please apply through our application form.

You've submitted your application - now what?! Once you have submitted your application, the global learning team will review - see selection criteria below. You can expect for the review process to take 10-15 business days. If there are any questions or concerns about your application, our team will be in touch. 

Selection is based on:

  • Academic Performance (i.e. GPA)
  • Letter of Intent
  • Budget preparations
  • Suitability of the partner institution’s program/course for your degree requirements
  • GPA requirements at the partner institution - some partners will require a higher GPA than YorkU's 5.0
  • Spaces available at the partner institution

You will be notified if you have been nominated for a summer program by York University. Remember, you may not get your first choice, so it's important to list at least one alternative partner institution. If nominated, you will be sent a notification via the online application system which will require you to accept your nomination.

All students nominated for Summer Abroad programs are required to submit an application to the partner institution. Once your eligibility is confirmed and you are officially nominated, you will receive a partner checklist with further instructions. Please note that application deadlines vary by institution, so be sure to consult the partner's website for specific details.

Please do not make any payments to the partner institution or book travel arrangements until you receive an official nomination from York International.

All students registered and selected to go on Summer Abroad programs are eligible for York International Mobility Award (YIMA). Visit our funding page for more information.
