My research is on the history of genetics, evolutionary biology, molecular phylogenetics, biodiversity and ecology. My work on the history of microbial evolution focuses especially on research and theory beyond the classical neo-Darwinian framework, emphasizing the fundamental importance of symbiosis and horizontal gene transfer.
