Workplace Restoration is focused on strengthening relationships, rebuilding trust, and fostering a culture of respect across the York University community.
Rooted in principles of Diversity, Equity, Decolonization, and Inclusion (DEDI), the program supports the creation of psychologically safe environments where individuals and teams can thrive.
At its core, this work is about building a relational culture—one where people feel seen, heard, and valued, and where differences can be navigated with empathy and accountability.
We offer a range of supports—including facilitated conversations, conflict coaching, capacity-building workshops, and team-based interventions—to help individuals and groups navigate challenges and strengthen their working relationships.
Whether you're seeking to repair trust, improve collaboration, or build capacity for constructive engagement, our team is here to help.

Background
In November 2024, CHREI launched the Workplace Restoration program, led by a new Director, Oliver Martin, who collaborates with the education and case management team. The program offers training, informal resolution, workplace assessments, consultation, and other equity-advancing approaches to build capacity among others to work and communicate constructively, to mitigate unproductive interpersonal conflict, and to restore trust when conflicts arise. Within four months, the program has engaged ten teams across the university, offering services and workshops to build capacity and strengthen community connections.

Capacity-building
Our workplace restoration efforts are grounded in the belief that meaningful change begins with building individual and collective capacity. Through a range of workshops, facilitated dialogues, and team-based interventions, we support people in learning how to navigate conflict, collaborate across differences, and strengthen relational dynamics. Our goal is to foster environments where trust, empathy, and constructive engagement can thrive.

Dialogue Across Difference
Rather than aiming to persuade, we invite people into respectful dialogue rooted in genuine curiosity and a desire to understand others’ lived experiences. By learning to hear the humanity in others’ stories—even when views differ—we foster a culture of empathy, collaboration, and civil discourse.

“True resistance begins with people
confronting pain... and wanting to do
something to change it.”
